Keep your motorcycle ministry simple and church based to Ministry to motorcyclists is best when it is another ministry within the church - it does not need to differ from your existing church structure - department, cell group, etc. Use the same guidelines and policies for your motorcycle ministry that you would for any other ministry within the church. A different structure separates it without need. Use your church name to tie in with the other great things your church is doing - i.e. "Your Church Riders" - leading motorcyclists toward Jesus and your church.Using a different name from the church’s separates the motorcycle ministry (and your members) from your church. Think ”branding” – a unified marketing concept. Many national and regional motorcycle ministries exist; none use your church name. You’ll give more to them than you’ll gain from them. Focus your effort in your area. Keep the motorcycle ministry tee-shirt based - then your members look like the other members of their community - your folks are probably enthusiasts not bikers. Avoid vests and back patches. They make you look like hardcore bikers. Back patches are the most common mistake in motorcycle ministries. Reach out to the enthusiasts! Never use a three-piece patch design, even on your tee-shirt; this offends the hardcore bikers who use this design. Use your church logo to maintain the tie-in. Minister to those who are your friends and neighbors - folks like you - enthusiasts. Leave the hardcore biker ministry to hardcore ministers - keep your members safe! Treat all bikers with respect - they range from the enthusiast to the one-percenter. Understand the culture - don't adopt it - love and acceptance is Jesus method, not imitation. Reject the motorcycle club model, embrace the local church model. You don't need a tattoo or a back patch to effectively minister to motorcyclists; you need the Word and the Holy Spirit! Ensure that all motorcycle operators have the required motorcycle endorsement on their licenses and that all motorcycles are properly registered and insured.
